Set on the outskirts of the town of Misurata, on the Mediterranean coast of Libya, this project comprises the creation of a new village set over a site of around 270,000 sqm, with all the related amenities and facilities. Taking inspiration from the location and the nearby ancient Roman port of Sabratha, the objective of DeMicoli & Associates' architects and project managers was to create a multi-use project and also retain a high standard of design and facilities throughout.
The introduction of the sea to heart of the site creates a unique residential setting in this part of the country, as well as creating an artificial island on the coast. This island became the natural choice to locate a traditionally planned ‘Medina’ style area of the development, mirroring the urban characteristics of the location. The underlying concepts behind the design were:
Sensitivity to location
Contribution to local economy
The project consists of the following:
An island village with both commercial and residential features
Residential units comprising villas, apartments and maisonettes
