MICROSOFT CENTRE

2012

The purpose of the Microsoft Innovation Centre was to locally fuel innovation. The client brief stressed that the design should reflect an environment to encourage creativity.

Since the Microsoft Innovation Centre is also an incubation space for start-ups, there was a need for comfortable and flexible working spaces. As a result, the space had to be maximised to allow various start-ups to work concurrently within the premises whilst not infringing on each other’s work space. This required a delicate balance of spatial design and function that would enable different activities.

Various room typologies allowed for teamwork and collaboration as well as quiet reflective spaces, whilst flexibility was gained through the introduction of moveable partitions. Supporting these spaces were the creation of a coffee bar and tables for informal meetings that would encourage interaction. The formulation of a demo area created an opportunity to display new and upcoming products.
